Always Seeking Beauty

“Be soft. Do not let the world make you hard. Do not let pain make you hate. Do not let the bitterness steal your sweetness. Take pride that even though the rest of the world may disagree, you still believe it to be a beautiful place.” Kurt Vonnegut, Jr.

Love this quote... and I realize that life can get painful and difficult at times. I just try to always find the positive, the possible and the opportunity in every situation.

Getting out there...

Hope you all had a great holiday!

I am so excited to share that my work is on display and for sale in two local shops. My goal is to get my art into galleries and shops all over the world and what better place to start than home...

WP Framewerx is a great gallery and frame shop right in downtown Winter Park. From the moment you walk in it just feels great and the owner is super cool and an amazing framer and artist.

A few of my pieces are in the window...

Cozen's Ranch Museum and Gift Shop holds a ton of local history and is a treat to visit. The museum is hosting a "small art" gift show and sale from November 18th through January 5th.

Well, here it is friends...
the first Fabulous Friday Giveaway...

I am so excited to share this piece with you! I soooo enjoyed making this and put lots of love and energy into it. It is a sweet little 4x4inch mixed media collage on canvas.  Some of the items I incorporated into the piece are text from a book, nails, a tassle and an old bottle cap.

Mixed Media Revisited

Here is an original mixed media collage I created for my brother and my new sister-in-law as a wedding gift. I wish I had a better photo but I took this quickly in the morning before we left for our trip... It was so much fun to create, especially with the bride and groom in mind.

Lately, I have been inspired to play with mixed media again so I have been digging through some of my collections of odds and ends to create one-of-a-kind pieces.

And speaking of one-of-a-kind... I am super excited because I just finished the piece that I am going to be giving away in my Fabulous Friday Giveaway... I can't wait to show you in a couple of days!
Happy Day!

Home Is... and Art Giveaway Reminder

It feels great to be back home... We had a great trip visiting family and friends and spending some time in the desert.
Here are just a few shots from the trip...

We had lunch under this rock overhang in Moab, Utah.

A beautiful arch that is on an old settlers trail in Eagle Canyon, Utah.

A funky little alien-themed jerky shop in Baker, California.
Rock art at a spot on the trail called Head of Sinbad/Locomotive Point. Love this ancient artwork...
I have realized over the years that as much as I love getting away, seeing new places and traveling, I really love being at home. Over the years my hubby and I have daydreamed about selling it all, taking a year or so, loading up the camper and traveling around the country.  A part of me finds this really enticing... I mean, would be pretty great... I would be with my best friend and doggies, on an extended vacation, learning about this country and myself, seeing beautiful sights, trying new food... Besides, I have often heard that home is really what we make of it wherever we are or who we are around and while I agree to some extent, I have come to understand that I do really like having a home base. I guess I am a nester. What about you? What is your definition of home? What does it mean to you?

I missed making art, being in my studio and around all of my supplies. I did take a small travel pack of art materials and played a bit. But once we unpacked the camper and tended to the post-trip necessities I headed straight for my work space. Ahhh... it was like taking a deep breath of fresh air. I was pretty tired so I only worked for about an hour before bed but here are a few pieces I started to play with... as always, I look forward to seeing how they turn out.

And don't forget...Fabulous Friday Giveaway Reminder... I will post an artwork (not pictured yet) this Friday November 16th. If you are interested in possibly receiving the piece please leave a comment on that day's post. Entries will be open until November 22nd at midnight. I will announce the lucky recipient on Friday November 23rd.

Upcoming Fabulous Friday Giveaway

I have been learning such amazing lessons lately and a big one is Giving. I have actually always been a giver and love doing it. But the reminder of just how important it is is always welcome. Whether it is fresh baked treats, a necklace, a piece of original art or a helping hand... it just feels good to give. Try it! I especially love creating something with a special someone in mind and then presenting them with that gift.

So in honor of living an inspired life and "giving to receive", I am excited to give a special painting away next month. The first Fabulous Friday Giveaway will be November 23rd. I will post the item to be gifted on November 16th and officially open the giveaway... please leave a comment on that day's post if you are interested in possibly receiving the gift... entries will be open through Thursday, November 22nd and close at midnight (MST). The lucky winner will be announced Friday, November 23rd.

A rainbow of rocks I found (and arranged) in the desert.

I will send out a few reminders here on my blog as well as on my Facebook Artist page over the next couple of weeks just so you don't forget. Feel free to share this with your friends. Best Wishes!
