One Week In...

We have officially been in our new place for one week. I have been trying to be very quiet and to just listen for how it feels. It feels right. It feels comfortable and good.
We are settling in.
I am excited to check everything out. We have already explored town a little bit and are learning where everything is. It's not a huge place so it has been fairly easy... and fun.
I look forward to trying out the two yoga studios and rec center classes... dining at the Nepalese restaurant... checking out the library... taking drum lessons... for starters.
We already went for a short cross country ski with the dogs... good stuff.

The morning sunrises are colorful and inspiring...
and every day we have been visited by these sweet beings... It's a bit dark in the first photo but there is a buck at the bottom right area of the photo. This is just outside of our bedroom window.

My art studio is set up and I have been painting and making jewelry. Our place is small so I am extremely grateful that I have a room all to myself. Here are a few things I have been working on. Paintings and jewels...

You're a Snowflake

Imagine, John Lennon.jpg

“Every piece of the universe, even the tiniest little snow crystal, matters somehow. I have a place in the pattern, and so do you.”

T.A. Barron (born 1952);
So true... I truly make my fullest effort to live this every day.

With so many print on demand (POD) sites out there how does you choose which one to go with...? I have dabbled with Zazzle, Cafe Press and Finerworks for some printed products. Today, I decided to give Society6 a try and opened a shop. So quick and simple. I liked that they offer prints on high-quality archival paper in a variety of sizes (depending on the resolution quality). I also like the idea of not having to put out a big investment up front. Of course, as an artist using this type of service, one also does not make as much per sale... ah, well, it's a good experiment. And I know many artists trust and use Society6 and I look forward to seeing what happens...
Here is just one of the pieces I have listed so far. You can order this in 8x10 for $18, 13x17 for $25 and 17x21 for $32...

Happy Paint Party Friday

Last week I discovered Paint Party Friday and I am so glad I decided to participate in this fun offering. Almost instantly, I discovered so many supportive creatives who are willing to share in each others endeavors.
And I have expanded my inspiration pool by seeing so much creativity in this group. I shared a blog post about a new direction my art is taking and it definitely is...

Here is my latest piece I started a couple days ago and worked on late into last night. It is not finished yet but I think it is getting close.

Like many artists, I get deeply involved with certain subject matter and symbols. They continually appear in my art as I "work through" them and gradually a series emerges. As I stated last week, I think the birdies are gone for now and I am seeing a new focus develop. I am having so much fun and this very physically involved painting process feels so good and natural... I feel super alive and aware of the moment but also loose and free as I am painting. Loving where I am headed...!

Happy Friday to all and if you haven't yet, head on over to the great community of artists at Paint Party Friday.

Home Base...

As my hubby and I make a transition in our lives and explore new surroundings, a new home and expand our tribe, feelings of excitement and possibility fuel the change.

And no matter what... I am constantly opening my heart to find my home base here...

12 Wishes...

Today I am participating in Jamie Ridler Studios Wishcasting Wednesday and in honor of this unique, once in a lifetime, date... 12/12/12... she has asked us what 12 wishes we wish for. Perfect timing because I was recently thinking about making a list of various dreams, desires and wishes!

What I love about this exercise... one you can join every Wednesday... is that there is a power in expressing our wishes out loud whether through speaking or writing. When we recognize them and share them with others (and- added bonus thanks to WW- get their blessings) we align with our Source and send our wishes out with intention into the Universe. From there we patiently wait for the Universe to respond and for our wishes to manifest. I have experienced it firsthand and know that the magic is there.

These are my wishes for now...
  1. To always live with gratitude.
  2. To sell our house... fast!
  3. To be fluent in Spanish.
  4. To help others and to have a positive impact on this world.
  5. To be a successful, full-time artist.
  6. To live a healthy life.
  7. To grow deeper in love with my best friend... my husband.
  8. To be happy, to laugh and have fun.
  9. To live from my truth.
  10. To be and see more love, kindness and compassion.
  11. To practice yoga and meditate everyday.
  12. To make wise decisions.
Happy Wishcasting Wednesday... what are your wishes?

Freedom To Be

This piece started out as an example for an intuitive painting workshop I was going to teach (sadly, cancelled due to our move). I had taken some photos of the beginning stages when I originally painted this to share some of the process with my students. I was going to then go in on top and add more throughout the class.

Well, ... I had a burst of inspiration the other night and let it loose on the canvas since I wasn't going to be using it in the workshop anymore... and this is the result...

Lately I have been looking at a lot of art journaling work and also inspired by graffiti. In addition, this artist and this one too have been on my radar... all of that definitely inspired this piece. It was so much fun and so freeing to work in this way. I worked in a sort of stream of consciousness manner and wrote words and quotes of positivity. Some are buried under the paint but they are there, in the energy and essence of the work. It was like all of the messages I have been learning about and focusing on were poured out from my heart and onto the canvas.

Olive You

Love finding these little hearts... they are everywhere if our eyes are open to them.

The Benefits of Space

Over the last few weeks I have not made much time for my creativity, which is a bummer feeling, if you can relate... it's sort of like not breathing fully or sleeping soundly, eating well or like a part of me is being overlooked. And, in a way, that is just what happens, a part of me is neglected and I do not feel complete when I am not able to play in my studio. I had been positively distracted but I still felt the pull.

Sometimes, that little bit of space can help my work in the long run. I've been there before but the distance was much, much longer... like two years- a little too long. But even then something magical happened when I was finally back in the studio. Like an incredible explosion of bottled creativity that was finally released... that had been brewing, seasoning and was finally ripe for the taking.

It may be too early to tell but, this recent short break may have been just long enough to create a slight shift in my work. Or maybe it is time anyway... I let my little birdies take flight. I am not sure how long it will last but they did not want to be in my latest paintings. I love them dearly and they worked their way into my paintings so strongly and unexpectedly in a way I never could have planned. I welcomed them and felt them calling to be in each piece. Who knows if they will be back...? Here are my newest pieces...

Change is Good

Lately, I have been pretty distracted by some positive life changes... My hubby and I are moving in just a few weeks so we have been preparing. Preparing the house for sale, finding a new home, packing our belongings for the move and getting ready for the transition.

Some people do not care for this type of change. I do. I find it exciting. Yes, I will miss good friends and certain things about where we have been for the last 16 years... but I am looking forward to the newness... exploring new surroundings, meeting new friends and discovering new details about myself as I plant new roots.

I will miss the amazing view, many of which I have shared here, but here is the new view. Different, but just as beautiful. There are gorgeous mountains off in the distance that aren't super clear here in this photo... and there are apple trees in the yard!
